A Safe Place for All Beings
At Farmfari, every animal carries a story — of resilience, survival, and rediscovery. Many arrive uncertain, frightened, or withdrawn. Over time, with gentle care and patience, they begin to trust again. The same can be said for many of the humans who find their way here. Whether visiting, volunteering, or simply observing, people often describe the experience as healing.
Sanctuaries like Farmfari provide more than a safe space for animals; they offer a space for humans to reconnect with compassion, safety, and stillness.

The Science Behind the Animals Bond
Research continues to confirm what animal lovers have always known — animals have the power to heal us. Spending time with animals has been shown to:
- Lower cortisol (stress hormone) levels
- Increase oxytocin (the “connection” hormone)
- Regulate heart rate and calm the nervous system
According to the Australian Psychological Society, animal-assisted interactions can improve emotional regulation and help trauma survivors rebuild trust.
When we gently stroke a rescued cow, brush a horse, or sit quietly near a grazing animal, we mirror their state of grounded presence. It’s this calm energy that allows both humans and animals to heal together.

Shared Healing at Farmfari
Farmfari is proud to be a sanctuary of shared healing, where humans and animals coexist in peaceful harmony. Many survivors of trauma and domestic violence who visit describe feeling a “release” or deep sense of safety for the first time in years.
The animals mirror that journey — learning to trust after fear, to connect after isolation. Every time a visitor sees a once-wary animal now nuzzling a hand, it’s a silent reminder that healing is possible.
